Neo Angelique playlog pt.6
So far, it's N.G. on the Celestizam; they won't even open our doors to us, no matter who I bring. I did decide to take Hyuga out for a stroll at the start of the session, and I strolled up to the Celestizam with him in tow while a green exclamation mark was over the place (that usually denotes "mission or something else that needs your attention available here"), but when he arrived, he just gave a recap of the place's members-only policy. Perhaps I shouldn't have taken Hyuga along to check on that "!", considering his "I shan't enter the Celestizam until I make amends for Carlisle" thing, but I don't know if that holds in the game - and, to be honest, I don't know if the "!" was present before or just popped up when Hyuga joined so we could get a chara-specific scene out of the way. I tried going back later when J.D. was with me, but that earned only a generic scene of Ange approaching the gates but being turned away.
Anyhow, as planned before, I visited Hyuga at the start of play, which actually changed my opinion of him greatly: the smallest comments and inquiries about his interests made him so quietly happy, poor guy. The conversation actually cut out after a few questions when Hyuga heard the sound of birds out the window and he and Ange stopped talking to listen together for a long while, after which Hyuga apologized for taking up so much of her time. Ange seemed to think that something'd gone wrong, that maybe she'd chosen the wrong topic to broach, but I dunno, Hyuga's "happy/serious" meter was maxed out on the "happy" side, and that seemed like a very Hyuga way to spend time together.
When I got back from taking Hyuga around, a request came in from Artifact (or Artefact, however they've chosen to spell it) - the "purify a Thanatos in the Ship of Stars so that Artefact can gather purification data on you" one. Rayne was revolted by the request, suspecting that something was up, and excused himself from the mission in disgust. Thinking that it might be fruitful to take an artifact to Artefact, I chose J.D. for a partner. This didn't set off any warning lights at the Foundation (it didn't in the manga, either, which had J.D. for Ange's partner in that scenario, too; guess you overestimated the Foundation's perceptiveness, anime Nyx), but it did lead to a priceless scene where Jorgo (your contact for the mission, who's as slimy as you'd expect) asked if we wanted any reward for our work, and J.D. responded that no reward was necessary - all he wanted was for Jorgo to give him a smile, whereupon Jorgo angrily told him to take his jokes and get the heck out.
We did meet Bernard immediately after that, though! The manual says that Bernard (and Rene) won't show up unless certain conditions are met and hints that you have to go out of your way to meet them, but the Ship of Stars incident seems unavoidable, so I don't know. He divulged Artefact's ulterior motives and asked permission to write an article about us and was genuinely personable, so I don't foresee any difficulties in meeting him again. His voice is so soft, though - even at max volume, I had a hard time hearing it.
I wanted to follow up with Rayne on the Artefact nonsense (Jorgo reveals their familial connection and Rayne's former ties to Artefact when you meet him), but we had a dinner party right when we got back. Nyx was cooking automatically, so I passed up generous offer of "escargot cream" in favor of beef in red wine (though the meunière was tempting due to Deadly Premonition flashbacks, cooking with wine seems more Nyx's thing). This dinner went better for Hyuga, but not by much:
Ange: So, Hyuga, what do you like to do usually?
Ranye: (interjecting, grinning) You're gonna say "training," right?
Hyuga: (slack-jawed, with a "how DARE you" look on)
J.D.: Now, now, don't look like that. Smile for me, Hyuga! You too, Rayne!
Nyx: (trying to turn conversation around) So, what do you do, Hyuga?
Hyuga: ......
Ange: Hyuga?
Rayne: (grinning) Training, right?
J.D.: (shocked) Really?
Hyuga: Is there something else I should be doing besides honing my skills?!
Nyx: ...I suppose not.
He did say, though, that he had a good time afterwards. Again, my meter filled up rather effortlessly with Nyx, though somehow mine with Rayne came out ahead, even after I tried smiling at Nyx to redress the balance, but he didn't notice (you have to time your flirts when the character's sprite's looking directly at you). Oddly, though his meter wasn't full, J.D. wanted to talk to me after dinner in addition to Rayne. I've kind of given up on J.D., though, following an incident on the road where he ditched Ange without telling her and was found asking a passing girl to put her arms around his neck - so she could stand comfortably while he fixed the broken heel to her shoe, you see. I don't think J.D.s really intending to pull anything (and chose the response "sometimes, I don't understand what you're thinking, J.D." response to the situation, which made him happy for some reason), but he's a little too gibu ando teeku to be an enduring LoveLove prospect. So I chose Rayne, who suddenly seemed standoffish and just had a few lines about books before blowing off. Eh. I think I'm gonna take Nyx for a spin next time instead.
