Neo Angelique playlog pt. 12

I did wander around and eventually got seven of the nine elemental Guardstones through random battles. Problem is, I've checked every battle location on the map, but I don't have the map completely filled in, so I don't know if my luck's just been bad regarding those missing two stones or if I have to make those AWOL locations appear via date events.

I took Hyuga around on all the Guardstone patroling, during which his compatibility rating shot up significantly. We also stopped by Kozu during a nearby patrol, during which Hyuga not only referred obliquely to Sara & Pastha's romance as healing racial fractures in the Dragon Tribe ("long, long ago") but pointed out to Ange a fortuneteller in the village. She fulfills the same help-with-your-LoveLove-woes function Sara and Mel (and...Nene, I think it is) do in the games, but instead of showing compatibility ratings, she gives you hints as to what you have to do to go to the next level in the relationship with whoever. All went as per expectations until I got to Hyuga's name, whereupon she responded that this person was not for me - "your fate lies with another." I thought this odd, as at that point, Hyuga had a compatibility rating almost as high as J.D.'s. I later realized that this probably meant I missed the chance to get one of Hyuga's crucial Bingo Talk keywords, either through not bringing him to the Celestizam when they came a-calling or by telling Rene to shove off.

I actually felt rather dejected at this. I know - Hyuga's been such a jerk in my game, and yet he as of late had become more contemplative and gentle, which was a welcome contrast not only to his earlier brusqueness but also to, say, Rayne's recent antics. I felt like I was just leading him on when I was talking to him after patrols, knowing that our budding romance would never bear mixed-metaphorical fruit. See, I don't think I'm cut out for this genre: I feel bad about getting involved with multiple pixellated characters, I don't want to hurt anyone's virtual feelings, and I regret severing ties with anyone remotely pleasant. (I don't, however, regret saying goodbye to Rayne or, for that matter, Bernard or Rene.) Perhaps adding to the funk is how I don't feel that strongly compelled to become involved with any of the leads - Rayne's a jerk now, Hyuga's hard to get to know and out now anyhow (and he seems to get displeased if you attempt to do anything for yourself on dates), and Nyx is a bit too stiff. J.D.'s the only one who's unrelentingly nice and is unquestionably the best prospect right now, though he can be a bit vapid and overly chummy with others at times. None of the Abyss characters are unlocked, and as previously mentioned, I do believe that you have to Rene's ending for Mathias to show up.

Oh, well. Carlisle's probably Hyuga's one true love, anyway.

There was also a big demonstration of the Institute's anti-Thanatos Jinx machines, which apparently are in the game, even if Erenfried yet isn't. The collateral damage the units wreak is here inherent to the Jinx's operation itself rather than a product of poor operator aim or lack of Institute give-a-damn as in the anime. The havoc prompts concern from a few spectators. In response, Jorgo asks if the damage is any greater than that caused by the Thanatos, which is kind of a point, his ever-present smarmy smile notwithstanding.

Had a dinner party. Rayne finished his mushroom dish before everyone else and declared a premature end to the party before we had a chance for dessert, the jerk.
