They...they knew what they were doing with this game, right? And yet it's presented so drily, in such a straightforward manner. But the content. I mean, they go far enough that they might as well go the rest of the way, and yet they don't. It's like driving to Golden Corral - like building a Golden Corral - and restricting your meals to sensible portion sizes.

Yeah, we've all given up on the sequels being good, but recent Resident Evil 5 casting news prompts questions:

- I know the sequels make money, but do they really make the kind of money to throw around for off-the-cuff Michelle Rodriguez cameos? She's not in the $20-million club, but she'd command a bit much just to hire for what's probably shaping up to be a couple flashback scenes, wouldn't she?

- Has the movie star from 4 pulled off an improbable survival only for the series to realize that "oops, we forgot to kill the black character"?

- Why is Umbrella bothering to release new products? Who's going to buy them? The world's ash; isn't a bit dispiriting to ask us to get involved with who wins custody of the flakes?

- Will Barry Burton mention anything about an Alice sandwich? Will he get more or less screentime than the inexplicable K-Mart?

- Yes, yes, but what about Martin Crewes? Is he back? That's the important thing, dammit! ...Ehhhh, on second thought, it's bad enough Rodriguez is here; as little from the one actually good film as possible should be involved with this.

Someone retranslated it, apparently. Why? Who would take all this trouble for Vay? Who thought, in 2011 2008, that this was an IP ripe with unexploited potential? Does this version have redone voice acting? Do fans express relief, as Lunar devotees to our shame do with Ghaleon's redub, that Sadoul no longer "sounds gay"?

ETA: The mystery only deepens with investigation. The iPhone port was developed by SoMoGa, Inc., whose website lists Vay and Vay only to its credit in the past three years. This company was founded solely to port Vay.

Why? Why? And how did they get the rights from SIMS, a major software manufacturer? Granted, SIMS has fallen on hard times, but SoMoGa, as evinced by the new art and voice acting on the game website, is an amateur outfit. Not even Sega farms out its old licenses so lightly.
