For the past several years, thanks to journalists who trained themselves on the GameFAQs message boards and somehow got themselves positions at high-level publications, the media has been trending toward phasing out the rule in English about not capitalizing prepositions or articles in the middle of sentences. Having run across both today, I might note that the relatively young allAfrica news aggregate has CBS beat in the grammar department.

In other news, I'm trying to educate myself about Africa, and I'll pass along two links about the resale of donated used clothing on the continent and its impact on the economy. (The first links is older but still relevant.) Dumping by U.S. charity organizations has helped to put the pinch on native African textile industries, yet tariffs meant to counteract this effect at the same time hurt the lower-class middlemen who scrape together a living scavenging, buying, and selling the insanely popular used U.S. merchandise.

This is startlingly effective. Certainly more effective than The Ring Two.
