"Headcanon" quote-unquote meme from Tumblr. Instead of doing all fifty questions for just one character, I'm going to cycle through a list of several.

1. Ghaleon
2. Dain
3. Morris
4. Latona
5. Zain
6. Tagak
7. Rouj
8. Remilia
9. Guildmistress
10. OK, here's the deal: I tried including Niea in the meme, but these things just aren't built for a five-year-old to participate. Therefore, I'm just going to take all the characters into consideration and use the one whom I think would provide the most entertaining response.

1. What does their bedroom look like? (Ghaleon)

The bedroom of Ghaleon's that we've seen was rather sparse, but that was at a very early stage in his life, and his family home was in general disrepair. During the formative years of his adult life, he didn't really have a bedroom. I imagine it'd be well-furnished for what's there (meaning, good-quality, attractive room fixtures) but spartan, with books being the predominant feature of the room and not too many personal accents at all.

2. Do they have any daily rituals? (Dain)

I don't think he plans that far ahead.

3. Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often? (Morris)

Morris is physical more in the hedonistic sense than that of self-discipline. He has too much pride in himself not to take care of his body, but I can't imagine what the man does for physical activity.

4. What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy? (Latona)

Possibly get something at a store and eat it out, somewhere alone. Latona seems a practical but unsociable sort - ergo, no dining in at the restaurant. Though that's a nice mental image - her trying to eat at a restaurant alone, Morris slyly trying to join her at her table, etc.

5. Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.) (Zain)

We've seen Zain's office, and it seemed to have a lot of clutter. Zain seems to be a St. Germant type that isn't a slob per se but whose housekeeping has a hard time keeping up with his workload & stream of consciousness.

6. Eating habits and sample daily menu (Tagak)

I don't imagine he eats much. Well, I imagine he eats somewhat well, considering he's somewhat muscular for an elf, but I don't think he chooses or prepares his food for pleasure.

7. Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time (Rouj)

Frittering around with his family. I imagine he doesn't view it as wasting time.

8. Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging (Remilia)

Remilia has a hard time doing things for herself exclusively, considering all she has on her shoulders. Her idea of such might be something as simple as having five minutes' respite from her duties, reading or sitting outside.

9. Makeup? (Guildmistress)

She seems to have some sort of glossy lipstick. She might be using mascara as well.

10. Neuroses? Do they recognize them as such?

Man, who doesn't in this crew.

Actually, that's a question, isn't it. Who has the least? Ghaleon's out, without question. Dain seems Teflon to neuroses even in circumstances which by all rights should induce them, which is probably a neurosis in itself. Latona, no. Zain has some sort of avoidance issue where he refuses to connect on a meaningful level with his child brother while he's still alive. Remilia has savior issues regarding her city (completely understandable, but still present). The Guildmistress seems markedly above everything in general in her inveterate smugness, which is probably part of some sort of sociopathic antipathy. I was going to say Morris, but keeping up that two-faced act and pushing all his resentment and negative emotion deep down inside is gonna take its toll eventually.

That leaves Tagak. Recall, though, the group shot in KSK where the other magic race react to Ghaleon announcing that he's going to finish the ship. Everyone else's shocked expressions fixate on Ghaleon, but Latona's eyes go immediately to Tagak. It's like she's expecting violence out of him. That doesn't speak well for his past behavior. So that does leave us with Morris as the best-adjusted, as at least he's not trying to take (most of) his frustrations in life out on other people.

Oh, wait, Rouj. Rouj is eminently mentall healthy. But Rouj has had centuries to mellow out his personality, so perhaps Morris should win by default.

11. Intellectual pursuits? (Ghaleon)

I don't think he has any pursuits but those that're intellectual.

12. Favorite book genre? (Dain)

We know this. Picture.

13. Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general? (Morris)

Obviously, Morris likes women, but he sure does like his invasion of Ghaleon's personal space, doesn't he. Funato inappropriate yaoi teasing, yeah, but I can easily see Morris with other men. This is underlined in Under the Rose, where he seems to be playing Not Oscar Wilde.

14. Physical abnormalities? (Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.) (Latona)

I've always wondered if Latona was some sort of warrior in the past, given the whole Blue Dragon thing at the end of KSK. If so, she might have a few physical scars from that time. Mentally, she obviously has depression, which is thoroughly understandable.

15. Biggest and smallest short term goal? (Zain)

Well, he's dead in KSK, so that's difficult. When he was alive, I imagine it'd be a big fuss for him to get lunch or something.

16. Biggest and smallest long term goal? (Tagak)

Tagak doesn't have long-term goals besides doing a good job in his blacksmithery. His short-term goals involve his work as well, I assume.

17. Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress (Rouj)

Rouj has other matters on his mind.

18. Favorite beverage? (Remilia)

Tea. I'd tell you what kind if I knew more about tea.

19. What do they think about before falling asleep at night? (Guildmistress)

Though the Guildmistress has big responsibilities, I don't think the well-being of Vheen is the last thing on her mind before going to sleep. (I don't mean that she's negligent, just that she's competent, has faith in her underlings, and is probably good at compartmentalizing.)

20. Childhood illnesses? Any interesting stories behind them?

I imagine Dain got a host of ailments considering all he got up to in his childhood and considering that his grandparent-guardians' idea of childcare was literally tying the kid to a post in their barn.

21. Turn-ons? Turn-offs? (Ghaleon)

The problem with speculating about character turn-ons, particularly for a favorite character, is that you near-invariably get a list of the author's personal preferences instead.

(I will say that I'm a bit surprised to find Ghaleon so frequently characterized as dominant in sexual scenarios, which probably stems from the heh-heh-heh Truitt voice. Ghaleon seems to me like someone who'd be more...if not submissive, then at least more tentative, perhaps?...if he found someone with whom he'd let his guard down enough to be intimate and finally relax in that respect. I don't think he's had enough experience with relationships, even at a century-and-a-half, to be the take-charge master of carnal knowledge as which he's frequently portrayed.)

22. Given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen? (Dain)

Doodles. Requests for crayons instead.

23. How organized are they? How does his organization/disorganization manifest in their everyday life? (Morris)

He's a crisp, put-together chap and seems pretty competent in his executive position, so he has to be fairly well-organized. Organization isn't the be-all end-all of his life, though. Morris is about play, not work, though he doesn't neglect work.

24. Is there one subject of study that they excel at? Or do they even care about intellectual pursuits at all? (Latona)

This is hard to answer! In the manga, we're seeing her at a point where she's given up on life and therefore isn't actively pursuing any personal interests. I'll note, though, that when everyone pitches in to help with out with the airship, she's the one who's doing the electrical (or energy-conduit-whatever) work, which is kind of an atypical role for an elegant female singer character. (Yeah, you could say she's best-suited to it because of her delicate fingers, but we're dealing with elves; no one is really going to have man-hands here.) So who knows what talents she has up her sleeve, really. I'd tend to think she's less scholarly and more hands-on; she likes to look after those about whom she cares yet isn't the mushy-coddling type of maternal and is noncoddled/hardened enough really to gaze into the abyss. I see her as an artist (song at the very least, obviously), maybe, as previously speculated, having been something of a warrior in her past; more in a "doing," proactive profession than a "being," passive profession. There's a strong streak of duty in her character, which goes with her role in Ghaleon's formative years.

25. How do they see themselves 5 years from today? (Zain)

"Still dead" is again a predictable troll answer. For consideration: if he had lived, would Zain have left Vheen, at least right after the ship's completion? His desire to build the airship was sparked presumably before he came down with whatever he came down with, and the mazoku still would've been "birds in a cage," trapped in their dying part of Vheen and struggling to find a place in modern Lunar, whether or not Zain bit it. On the other hand, being a teacher & his relationship with his pupils seemed to define his life, and the big statement he made by leaving the airship to the humans seemed to hinge on his not being there to make it. I wonder if he would've had the moment of crystallization, of insight regarding the airship and it being a ticket to a new life for the magic race but not in the way they expected, had his impending demise not brought things into focus. It seems like he would've otherwise been content to have been a teacher until his death. (Maybe he would've become a wandering teacher, though, like Ghaleon.)

26. Do they have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don’t work out? (Tagak)

Jes' bein' a blacksmith. I don't think he has any elaborate contingency plans; he's the type who rolls with the punches.

27. What is their biggest regret? (Rouj)

How long would Rouj have been alive by KSK? 800 years? 900? I don't think we know enough about the character's long life to tell. He seems pretty at piece with his existence, though, even though I don't doubt he's had some regrets.

28. Who do they see as their best friend? Their worst enemy? (Remilia)

Remilia seems like the type of person who makes friends in the trenches. She'd grow close to others through shared hard experience, not through Happy Fun Times indulged for the express purpose of socialization. From this perspective, you might say Dain is a good candidate for her best friend, as he's the most sweetly gregarious of the Four Heroes and they fight stuff together and he's the one who convinces her to break free in TnK and they might have had a romance together etc....but, Ghaleon's BFF status aside, the basic difference in their situations in and outlooks on life gives me pause. Remilia does go out to explore the world at the end of TnK, yes, but she does return to her job, there's no sense when she leaves that she's severing ties to the Guild, and being Guildmistress is how she willingly defines her adult life. Remilia's job is a big part of who she is, and to that end, she'd have to stay in a box to an extent regarding her friendships and relationships - she'd be most comfortable with someone in a similar position, who understands her professional struggles and with whom she can have intelligent conversation on related subjects. (Remilia self-discloses with Dain, yes, but I'm not sure the deep emotional involvement Dain provokes and requires would be something she'd find desirable or practical on a day-to-day basis. Ghaleon can deal with it because he does want that, even if won't admit it to himself, since it fills a big black void of love and emotional attachment in his life; Remilia, after all, savior complex and the occasional crisis aside, does have a loving, supporting family and a good network of like-minded folks behind her, while Ghaleon's got nuthin'.)

Anyhow, from this end, someone like the junior guild member with the braids who comes to her on the balcony in TnK might seem a good eventual bet.

(Incidentally, though we see Remilia get her wings with Dain at the end of TnK, by the time of Silver Star, she's doing her level best to ensure his probable daughter doesn't go out in the big bad wide world. There's a tragic little overlooked backstory there of what happened in the interim to change Remilia's mindset.)

Jesus Christ, I need to shut up about this. Enemies real quick: I'm not sure Remilia cultivates "enemies" either, outside of whatever it was that the Four Heroes fought. I'd think she'd keep things on the professional level (though she wouldn't be a slouch in dealing with people who threatened Vheen).

29. Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?) (Guildmistress)

I imagine she has sharp crisis-management skills, considering her job and level of self-confidence and all.

30. Reaction to sudden intrapersonal disaster (eg close family member suddenly dies)

Is the entire Vheen manga anything but sudden intrapersonal disaster?

31. Most prized possession? (Ghaleon)

His cloak? The Morris-Tagak composite one he has in TnK? I dunno. Ghaleon seems more attached to larger physical things and places (his home, his bro's airship) than personal mementos, and he doesn't have many of the latter, given that his entire race and cutlure is dying out and crumbling around him when he's born. Even the big stuff gets yanked away from him eventually. Getting depressing. Moving on.

32. Thoughts on material possessions in general? (Dain)

Enjoys the good times they can facilitate, but not overly attached to them.

33. Concept of home and family? (Morris)

Morris obviously really wants both but is resigned to not getting either.

34. Thoughts on privacy? (Are they a private person, or are they prone to ‘TMI’?) (Latona)

Private in general, but not beyond talking about what ails her with those to whom she feels close.

35. What activities do they enjoy, but consider to be a waste of time? (Zain)

I don't think Zain would consider any activity he enjoyed to be a waste of time.

36. What makes them feel guilty? (Tagak)

Tagak doesn't seem like the type of person to waste much time on those emotions. Guilt implies a failure to fulfill one's duty, and I don't think Tagak fails much in that regard. If he felt guilt, I imagine it would stem from not living up to his own high standards regarding familial responsibilities & the like.

37. Are they more analytical or more emotional in their decision-making? (Rouj)

A good mix of both.

38. Would they consider themselves a Type A or Type B personality? (Remilia)

The soul of Type A. (Does anyone ever call themselves a Type B?)

39. What recharges them when they’re feeling drained? (Guildmistress)

I don't want to say something like "spa stuff" because that seems a bit vapid for her, but she seems self-indulgent. Something sybaritic and comforting to the senses along those lines that's for her and her alone.

40. Would you say that they have a superiority-complex? Inferiority-complex? Neither?

Pass on this question for anyone. The two terms are so used interchangeably in popular parlance that I've no idea of how to differentiate between them, and our understanding of what causes and constitutes both low and high self-esteem is so thoroughly broken that we'll never be able to apply the terms properly, if they even had a proper application in the first place.

41. How misanthropic are they? (Ghaleon)

Though he probably unavoidably is to a degree, I don't think "misanthropic" is the right word; even as a villain, Ghaleon in a twisted way wants to take care of (most) everyone, not kill (most) everyone. I think rather that he's deeply, wearily, to-the-bone cynical backed by over a century of dispiriting experience.

42. Hobbies? (Dain)

Pranks, I suppose. I don't think he really limits himself to one particular area of the human experience in the typical hobbyist mien, though. Breadth, not depth; wants to "see every single thign in this world!", etc.

43. How far did they get in formal education? What are their views on formal education vs self-education? (Morris)

I imagine he got the farthest you can go in the Lunar/mazoku/whatever educational system, which doesn't seem very stratified or formalized in the first place, at least not up to the college level. Morris is a teacher and administrator, not to mention a reluctantly practical fellow, so I'm sure he recognizes the value of a degree, if Lunar has degrees. Considering he's a sensualist, though, I imagine he also knows the value of practical, hands-on experience. But so does Lunar's educational system itself, considering how globetrotting, wandering underground labyrinths, and beating up monsters plays into the curriculum in the Silver Star and School games.

44. Religion? (Latona)

I imagine she's pretty much lost her faith at this point.

45. Superstitions or views on the occult? (Zain)

He lives in a world of magic as it is. I'd wager, though, he's the type who believes less in superstitions and more in people making their own luck.

46. Do they express their thoughts through words or deeds? (Tagak)

Certainly deeds, though he can be blunt with words when provoked or just ticked off in general.

47. If they were to fall in love, who (or what) is their ideal? (Rouj)

Since the Rouj we see in KSK seems to center himself on his family and pseudo-family, I like to envision Rouj's spouse as a rather domestic (yet still capable; happy and friendly, like Rouj, and a bit proactive to take the reins where he's a bit more laidback) elf. We don't know, though, if he even had Rouj through a wife situation. The "grandpa" role he's in in KSK greatly colors my impression of him, but that's just one stage of his life, after all.

48. How do they express love? (Remilia)

If she were in an established relationship, I think she'd be a forthright partner - not the type that would have to explain that she expresses love through chores and nagging and whatnot. Though she won't easily lay her burdens on anyone else's back, she'd have good communication with her partner regarding the positive aspects of their relationship, is what I'm saying. Though she does demonstrate her love for Mia through overprotection, doesn't she. But that might have been part of the aftermath of a relationship gone bitter...hm.

49. If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like? (Guildmistress)

I'm having trouble envisioning the Guildmistress in a fist fight; in any altercation that would turn physical, she can just use magic. She's based on Grace King from Under the Rose, though, and Grace had a few unladylike talents up her sleeve (card playing etc.), so I imagine the Guildmistress can throw a good punch if needed.

50. Is this person afraid of dying? Why or why not?

So many Vheen Hikuusen characters either welcome death (Latona, Ghaleon) or are more or less accepting of it (the rest of the mazoku). Well, KSK does have Buddhist overtones, after all. Dain, he's well-adjusted enough to not really fight it. He's lived a full life. Remilia, I don't think she'll ever get enough done at work to die. Guildmistress is a bit hard to pin down. I can't see her facing death with much fear, but I imagine it'd be a bit of a production if it came in the natural course of things. (Grace King's death, though, came prematurely, and I wonder if the Guildmistress wouldn't follow in her prototype's footsteps.)
