A bit about the Phantasy Star II ending

If I attempt to format this on LiveJournal, it'll end up an imbroglio, so I'll just link here: it strikes me, upon reblogging a bunch of the ending pics from Tumblr, how everyone's last words are individualized to the character. Rudo is posed like an action hero, complete with BFG and requisite explosion in the background, but his last words, while tough, are defined by his personal pain. Amy's come from a plane of moral judgment that's oddly appropriate for a healer, a class always associated in the genre with wisdom; her haunting dead-on stare and the calm, cold light behind her make her a downright scary figure of divine judgment. Kain's aren't eloquent, but they're memorably direct, a burst of pure emotion. Shir's are selfish but somehow noble in their grandiose panache. Hugh's are meant to be profound but come out memorably weird and nihilistic - though you could probably write a fair bit about a life scientist concluding that his experiences have taught him "the ugliness of continued existence." Just as much, though, is communicated by his piercing stare. And Anna's evoke a martial sentiment that's utilitarian but high-minded. (And though this has nothing to do with her words, she cuts a damn fine figure in that ending pic with its sharp use of color.)
