So NightCry released its first gameplay trailer today:



I do like what we're seeing of the exploration perspective and camera work in scenes like the bar and the pantry. It's an effective update to the classic Clock Tower perspective that makes good use of 3D, and the way the camera is scaled back a bit more into the background that what we normally see adds a good bit of creep; it seems like the heroine is being perpetually watched. The cheesiness does concern me a bit, though. The Super Famicom Clock Tower was a slasher movie on a cart, but it had a certain class to it; it studied the artistry of Argento films well, and it had a good dash of panache. NightCry looks rough in spots. (Also, we might be overegging the pudding with a little ghost girl and a guy with Itchy Tasty bleeding sores and the masked cult from a couple Kickstarter updates ago in addition to a scissor-wielding maniac.)

Also, and I know I'm coming at this from a certain perspective here, but they need a better translator. I'm not saying they need a constant wink-wink nudge-nudge Working Designs fest, but at the very least, they need someone who knows how to use a comma.
